Education

“Education is the most powerful weapon which you can use to change the world.” -Nelson Mandela

Educating the New Zealand public about trade justice, the lives of our producers and the impact of fair trade is a big part of what we do.  This year we were thrilled to be able to talk with school children, universities, community groups and many others around New Zealand.

Did you know that?

ed2This year teachers from across the country requested 1,681 free Trade Aid resources. In addition to this a further 11,658 education and promotional resources were sent to our Trade Aid shops.

ed1Trade Aid did 279 educational talks in the community, racking up a whopping 1,142 volunteer hours to do so, and reaching an audience of over 11,000.

ed3Trade Aid was involved in 166 events this year with an audience of over 26,000.

A teacher using one of our resources gave us the following great feedback. “I’m very grateful to you for your supply of thought provoking and appropriate resources. I teach a range of ages, up to Year 11 level, and so even the teacher guides are useful to use as reading material for my older classes. I have a speaker from one of your stores coming to present information about fair trade and poverty on Friday, I’m excited to present the excellent resource to our students – to motivate and challenge them into action for the good of their world.”
